Hiking Trails

The Purple Trail (The Get Wet Trail)

Trail Description: This is a very easy walk that is appropriate for families (even with babies). You’ll find plenty of shade, as well as water plants, and a lot of the Common Reed. The path is circular and begins at the Flour Mills. The first part of the hike is in a water channel for about 150 meters; the return path goes through a “cave” of reeds.

  • Duration: About 15 minutes
  • Distance: About 400 meters

The Red Trail (The Flour Mill Trail)

Trail Description: This is an hour-long circular trail that winds between the channels of the Jordan River and old flour mills. Much of it is in the shade of beautiful willow trees, surrounded by lush plants on all sides. The trail begins and ends at the flour mills, and takes you to the central channel of the Jordan River, which flows constantly towards Lake Kinneret. During the hike, you will often see swamp turtles, fish, and various water fowl near the Jordan River. After the hike, you’re invited to sit in the shade, build a tent, and get ready for an overnight or camping out with the entire family.

Part of the path is wheelchair accessible.

  • Duration: About 30 minutes in each direction.
  • Distance: About 1.1 kilometers

The Blue Lookout Trail (The Great View Trail)

Trail Description: This is a circular trail that begins at the flour mills and ascends to a lookout over the Jordan River channels as they enter pastureland. At the end of the ascent, you’ll arrive at a breathtaking view of the Jordan River splitting up into many little rivulets, and then coming back to form two main channels – east and west. The eastern channel is closest to Park Hayarden, and sends water flowing into the aqueduct and the flour mills. The descent back down to the park is via a winding path, from which you can see the Jordan River getting closer and closer. At the end of the descent, you’ll enter the park and go down to the aqueduct, which is 600 meters long. You can walk next to it or inside of it, between all the plants. Nearby, you’ll notice the remains of other aqueducts and flour mills

  • Duration: About an hour and a half
  • Distance: About 1.8 kilometers

The Yellow Trail (The Aqueduct Trail)

Trail Description: This is an easy hike, but longer than the other options. It goes along the streams of the Jordan River, in the shade of willow trees, next to water plants and reeds, and you’ll even pass by an old sycomore tree hundreds of years old.

The trail begins in the southwest part of the park, at a footbridge near a eucalyptus tree grove; it ends at the flour mills. On the way, this trail joins the red trail, and in the end joins the blue trail. You can walk in the aqueduct, or alongside it. The trail is partially wheelchair-accessible

The Orange Trail (The Spring Trail)

Trail Description: This trail is adjacent to a beautiful spring. In the summer – if you’re quiet – you can see here both fish and swamp turtles in large numbers. The spring Ein Mashpa, whose waters are warm in the winter, flows from the foot of Tel Bet Tzaida. Next to the spring, a shallow pool was dug out, and from there a stream flows, eventually emptying out into the Jordan River.

Along the stream, picnic tables have been placed, and the site has become a very popular camping spot for setting up overnight tents. Even in the summer, the shade provided by the trees – as well as the flowing waters – make for a cool and comfortable rest area for the entire family. The hike is short, easy, and wheelchair/stroller-accessible.

Duration: About 10 minutes in each direction

  • Duration: About 10 minutes in each direction
  • Distance: About 250 meters

A Longer Spring Trail

Trail Description: This trail goes through the ancient city of Bet Tzaida by way of the city gate, and then leads to a nice viewpoint overlooking Lake Kinneret and the Bet Tzaida Valley. From there the hike continues to the foot of the ancient tel until one reaches the Ein Mashpa Spring – and then back again to the tel

The Black Trail (The Bet Tzaida Trail)
